Story of Snehita Women’s Health Foundation
A Crusade Woven with Compassion and Courage
At the heart of Snehita Women’s Health Foundation lies a singular, unwavering mission: to transform the fight against breast cancer by championing early detection—a stage where hope blossoms into healing, and a cure becomes more than a distant dream. This noble pursuit began as a spark in the compassionate minds of Dr. Paul Augustine, a distinguished Surgical Oncologist from the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, and his wife, Dr. Regi Jose, a dedicated Professor of Community Medicine at Sree Gokulam Medical College. Together, they envisioned a world where no woman would lose her life to late-stage breast cancer—a vision they have tirelessly brought to life since Snehita’s inception in 2016.
The Genesis of a Movement
Dr. Paul Augustine witnessed firsthand the devastating toll of breast cancer, particularly among women in the prime of their lives, whose diagnoses often came too late. Determined to rewrite this narrative, he turned to his wife, Dr. Regi Jose, a public health expert with a heart for service. Awareness alone, they realized, was not enough—women needed a safe, trusted space where they could seek care, be heard, and be examined with dignity, preferably by a woman who understood their fears. Thus, Snehita was born—not just as a clinic, but as a beacon of hope, guided by the couple’s belief that this service is priceless, beyond the measure of money.
Dr. Regi set aside time each evening after her regular work to offer free consultations, creating a sanctuary where women could find answers and solace. What began as a humble initiative soon flourished into a movement, as women from all walks of life—teachers, IT professionals, retired nurses, advocates, homemakers, and more—joined hands with her. These selfless souls, touched by the cause, volunteered their time and talents, forming the backbone of Snehita’s outreach.
A Legacy of Learning and Love
To ensure every voice in this crusade spoke with clarity and truth, Dr. Paul introduced the REACH volunteer training program. Over 500 volunteers—friends, colleagues, retired teachers, students, and even his own patients—were equipped with the knowledge to spread awareness and facilitate early detection. This ripple of goodwill gave rise to the SHARE Programme, where survivors and supporters alike rallied to uplift the less fortunate, proving that compassion knows no bounds.
A Sanctuary Built on Selflessness
Snehita stands today as a testament to the power of collective kindness. The office space and consultation facilities at Jainagar are offered free of cost. Consultation provided without a single rupee exchanged, because Dr. Paul and Dr. Regi see this not as charity, but as a sacred duty. With the invaluable support of Dr. Anoop Lal, Director of ZOVOZ Technologies, this vision has grown into a sustainable haven—a place where free clinics, awareness campaigns, and emotional support converge to nurture a community of health and hope.
A Digital Foundation of Support
The reach and resilience of Snehita’s mission have been amplified by the generosity of Ms.Sindhu C (UST Golbal) and Mr. Sreekanth S of Raintel Technologies. Their expertise and dedication brought Snehita into the digital age, crafting the website, building an online database, and streamlining appointment scheduling for the women we serve. Beyond creation, they continue to provide unwavering server support for our web application, ensuring that this lifeline of care remains accessible to all. Their contributions have woven technology into the fabric of our community, making hope just a click away.
The Heartbeat of Snehita
In essence, Snehita is the brainchild and heartbeat of Dr. Paul Augustine and Dr. Regi Jose—a symphony of their expertise, love, and unrelenting resolve. Yet, it is the beautiful, selfless souls who surround them—the volunteers, the survivors, the supporters—who breathe life into this mission every day. Together, they stand united in a singular purpose: to detect breast cancer early, to offer timely treatment, and to ensure that every woman’s story is one of resilience, not regret.
This is our story—a tale of courage, care, and community. And it is far from over.
